In this article, I’ll look at using the new Outlook for Windows client (in preview May 2023) use the My Day pane to turn an email into a calendar entry.
This article is also available as a video on You Tube.
As a heavy user of Outlook for Windows, I’ve been struggling to find my feet in the new Outlook, which is currently in preview. Today I resolved one of my big productivity blockers. I’m pretty certain its been there for a while, but as its a huge thing for my workstream, I decided to share.
Working in email, do you ever:
- Need to block out time in your calendar to deal with specific emails?
- Get event confirmations which are not meeting requests and need to add them to your calendar with all the details from the email?
- Book travel tickets and get email confirmations and want to block the travel time in your calendar?
- Need to add expiry date reminders to your calendar?
Thanks to the My Day pane you can. The My Day pane is activated from the calendar/tick icon on the title bar and is shown below.

- Display the My Day pane in Outlook
- Set to Calendar
- Drag your email into the pane
- Drop into the Events section of the pane
- Edit the appointment to suit and save
Happy calendaring!
