Add to Calendar

In this article, I’ll look at using the new Outlook for Windows client (in preview May 2023) use the My Day pane to turn an email into a calendar entry.

This article is also available as a video on You Tube.

As a heavy user of Outlook for Windows, I’ve been struggling to find my feet in the new Outlook, which is currently in preview. Today I resolved one of my big productivity blockers. I’m pretty certain its been there for a while, but as its a huge thing for my workstream, I decided to share.

Working in email, do you ever:

  • Need to block out time in your calendar to deal with specific emails?
  • Get event confirmations which are not meeting requests and need to add them to your calendar with all the details from the email?
  • Book travel tickets and get email confirmations and want to block the travel time in your calendar?
  • Need to add expiry date reminders to your calendar?

Thanks to the My Day pane you can. The My Day pane is activated from the calendar/tick icon on the title bar and is shown below.

Screenshot of the my day pane, showing the activation button selected and the calendar option underlined.
  1. Display the My Day pane in Outlook
  2. Set to Calendar
  3. Drag your email into the pane
  4. Drop into the Events section of the pane
  5. Edit the appointment to suit and save

Happy calendaring!
